This video will show you how people in different careers use Geography every day and why it's important for their job. Work-session: Today we will read “The five themes of geography help organize how we study our planet” (link & pdfs posted below) As you read, begin brainstorming ideas about possible skills and tools a geographer would need to be successful based on information from the article. (Prerecorded directions/lesson video posted below) Warm-Up: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” How does this quote show why history is important or what history is all about? After completing the warm-up, watch the video, What is History For? to introduce us to the purpose of history. Work-session: People often compare the way historians work to detectives solving a mystery. Take some time to brainstorm the following questions- How are historians similar to detectives solving a mystery? What questions would they need to ask when studying history? How do these questions help us learn more from history? Then, compare the questions you came up with to the questions the historical thinking chart has- how are they similar and different? Closing: Share your answers to the work session and explain how the questions you came up with are similar or different from the questions in the historical thinking chart in the Historical Thinking Reflection under the Discussions tab or in the comments below.
